Lifeline Project / First In Families of North Carolina

lifeline project
F.I.R.S.T partners with First In Families of North Carolina (FIFNC) to support people with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries and their families in the Western Highlands region. FIFNC has 13 local chapters that serve 45 counties across the state by providing support to families and individuals according to their self-defined needs. The Western Highlands region includes Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania and Yancey counties.

The types of support that will be available through this partnership include assistance with basic needs, home furnishings or modifications, childcare or respite, adaptive equipment or repairs to vehicles. Support may also be the connecting of an individual to vocational, social, and educational opportunities in the community; whatever it takes for people to live and participate fully in their community. Eligible families must have a family member with a developmental disability or traumatic brain injury, and receive a household after-tax income of $65,000 per year or less. To respond to a particular need, FIRST partners with local businesses, citizens, and agencies to receive the lowest possible price for products and services families need.
